Be Still Devotional: Day 8

Devotion for Wednesday February 19
Lauren Erwin | Bellaire ACV Preschool Program Coordinator
Scripture
Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
Devotional Thought
As a mom, it is very easy to try and be everything for everyone at all times. I also tend to take on the burdens of my children and others and easily find myself burnt out and weighed down. It is way too much for one person to bear, and I spiral when I find myself trying to control and fix everything (or others). Someone wise once told me, “Stop trying to wear so many hats; they aren’t yours to wear.”
When I hit that spiraling moment, I am reminded of Psalm 55:22, "Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” We are instructed literally to cast our burdens and cares on the Lord. That is when we will find the only ultimate peace. This is something I should do daily, but in all honesty, I struggle to let go. When we try and run the show, it all falls apart. But when we give it to Him, He promises to sustain us, to keep us steady and strong so that we won’t be moved!
I have learned that as soon as we release our burdens to Him, we can rest and live in full joy. His way really is this best way.
Reflection Questions
Suggested prayer/action step
If you have trouble letting go of control, take a deep breath and pray. You may pray something like this: “Lord, please give me wisdom and guidance on how to let go of burdens that I am carrying. Help me give it all to you by laying it at your feet. I can’t carry this load alone; I need your help. Thank you for being the Burden Taker, for sustaining me, and for your strength to go on.”

- What burdens are you carrying that you need give to the Lord?
- Do you ever have those “spiral” moments? How does it affect you? If not, how can you help those in your life who might experience them?
